It never ceases to amaze me how things always appear when you need to see them the most.

As I was waking on stage to present on goal setting, I glanced at my phone and read the most perfect quote. Here it is (straight from my phone)

I have always believed that your thoughts become your reality and it seems I have been proven that again.

I am no longer in the stage in my life where I will take on just ‘any’ client but instead ‘the right’ client. As I was approached to do business with multiple new clients, I sat back and really prayed and thought hard about what I wanted to really do.

Life is too short! I am moving forward with the idea that I can do anything and this is how I am going to do it:

1) Wake up each day saying ‘I can do and be whatever I want!’

2) Surround myself with loving, encouraging and thankful people

3) Love life

Today we are celebrating and thanking Veterans for their service. Yes… you can include me in that category. I am so proud to have served with some of the most amazing people I have ever came across. Passionate, caring and selfless people that I can call my friends. Today I hold my head a little higher.

It was so funny that I stumbled upon this video today. I was just thinking about this amazing experience I had this past year while I helped my then client Marley Majcher (@ThePartyGoddess) set up for this amazing segment on Fox News. It was a get-in-and-get-out kind of experience. We walked in to the studio and had just minutes to set up for the segment. (I was literally sweating from moving so fast) and then 30 seconds later… it was done. Wow! How awesome to see it played back almost a year later.

Marley was fabulous as always and I was so glad I was able to support her during this moment!

“I knew that I had amazing products and services to provide my audience but no one could seem to effectively, efficiently and in a reasonably priced manner, get it to market. And then I talked to Jessica. Finally at the end of my rope, I decided to take the leap. She has been nothing short of ridiculously fabulous. On her recent trip out, I actually asked her to move in with me so we could brainstorm new ideas all day long just like Bill Gates used to do in the old days. Her sparkle, calm demeanor, completely dedicated customer service attitude, her work ethic – I don’t even know how to pour more onto a page. She and the Solamar team are that good. Clearly the universe was smiling upon me because Solamar has literally saved my sanity.”
She has the ability to communicate difficult tasks in a way the newest employee understands and yet maintains brevity with seasoned staff, which is a rare talent in many organizations. Ms. Petrick’s knowledge and skill set are well above peers due to her character, strong management skills and staff communication.”
- Major Warren Pauling, ND Army National Guard

“The LaBelle Day Spa is very efficiently run by the owner Jessica Petrick. The spa is a great asset to the Bismarck-Mandan area. I have had wonderful treatments there from head to toes. The staff is very helpful and always concerned that my visit there was a great experience. The spa is relaxing and will send your stress packing. Jessica is a super business women and I would recommend her and her business to anyone.”
- Lisa Wilhelm-Lindberg, Realtor

“Jessica is an amazing business owner! She is super smart and detail oriented. Whenever there is a problem, Jessica can fix it! She is not only a great all around person, but she’s an amazing business person – she knows her stuff! I recommend Jessica with honor, as she would be a huge asset to any company.”

If you would just spot me walking down the street in my high heels, black skirt and highlighted hair down my back you would never guess my past history. “You have been where?” is the most common question when I reveal I was in the military and served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I was a combat engineer, helped build a bridge, drove in convoys across Iraq, cleared weapons caches and did security missions. We all hear that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and as I approach my 30th birthday I realize that is a lesson bigger than me.

After returning from Iraq, I didn’t know what my next step was. Do I start a 9-5 job, stay in the military OR use my new found skills and start a business of my own. Graduating with a business degree, I thought I knew all there was to know about starting, operating and owning a business. Hearing gun shots, IED’s and mortars couldn’t have prepared me for the knock-down-drag-out life of a business owner. I loved being creative, marketing, hiring and firing but it takes a village to run a business effectively. Knowledge and experience of others is something that you have to take advantage of. The lessons I have learned through the process have taught me to be a strong, independent and knowledgeable female. If you are thinking of starting a business, do it! But make sure you have a village of support.

Marketing your business and making it the business of choice to potential customers is one of the most important investments you can make. Having part of that village being marketing support, will save you dollars and headaches in the end. Find that someone that is your sounding board and can help spread your message to your niche and to the world.
